Rangers are close to agreeing on a permanent deal for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, according to a journalist for The Times.
Paul Joyce is claiming that Rangers are close to agreeing on a fee in the region of £6/7m for Kent with the player heading to Ibrox for a medical and to agree on personal terms once a fee is agreed.
The news comes not long after Kent was said to be interesting Champions League side Club Brugge [Sky Sports] and would represent a significant outlay for Rangers.
Steven Gerrard and Rangers have never hidden their determination to see Kent return to Rangers after a successful loan spell last season.
But Liverpool have always reiterated that they want to sell the 22-year-old, with Jurgen Klopp saying that the time for loan spells is over.
Kent – who has also had temporary spells at Coventry, Barnsley, Freiburg and Bristol City – would be Rangers’ most expensive signing since Mikel Arteta’s £6m move in 2002.
Following yesterday’s disappointing defeat to Celtic, should this move come to fruition it’ll be a major boost for Rangers fans.
It’s a major transfer statement from the Ibrox club and a real investment in a player who was also said to be interesting Leeds United this season [Daily Record].
Reports claim that Kent has always had his “heart set” [Sky Sports] on a return to Ibrox, whilst Steven Gerrard has said he’d “love” [Rangers] Kent to come back to Ibrox.
