Rangers’ ‘brilliant’ player now set for Saudi switch

Rangers striker Fashion Sakala could be set for a Saudi Pro League switch after all with Al-Fayha said to be persisting in their pursuit of the Zambian.

According to the Daily Mail, the Saudi side have lodged a £3million bid for the 26-year-old despite Sakala initially rejecting advances from the Middle East last week as he seemingly decided to focus on proving his worth at Ibrox.

The forward took no part in the Gers’ friendly against Hoffenheim at the weekend, nor did he feature in the open training session held by the club yesterday.

Michael Beale is supposedly happy to let Sakala depart for the right price, and should Rangers receive £3million then it would help recoup some of the fees spent on summer additions Danilo, Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima.

The Gers boss spoke on the matter following the match in Germany on Saturday. “There is nothing on Fashion at the moment,” said Beale.

“There is a bit of noise around a few of the players and that is natural because of how many we have brought in.

“As soon as there is something to say on that we will.” Labelled ‘brilliant’ by teammate Ben Davies following a 2-2 draw with Celtic last season, Sakala scored 12 goals and assisted seven for Rangers in the league last season as he proved himself to be reliable member of the squad.

Is Sakala departure for the best?

Should the Zambia international depart, the Gers are more than backed in the striking department following their summer arrivals. Not to mention Kemar Roofe is still on hand.

In two seasons with the club, he managed 21 league goals and 59 appearances in the Scottish Premiership – the Scottish Cup triumph in 2022 likely his fondest memory.

It would be a shame to see Sakala leave, but his exit may be one worth profiting from.
