The summer 2024 transfer window was brought to a close on Friday evening as Rangers completed their business.
Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen made 11 new signings across the past few months with two new arrivals – Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Nedim Bajrami – secured on deadline day.
Central defender Kasanwirjo joined Rangers on loan from Feyenoord while advanced midfielder Bajrami penned a permanent deal at Ibrox until 2028 from Sassuolo.
So now that no more incomings and outgoings can be sealed until January, Rangers News delivers what we think is the club’s strongest starting XI when Clement has a fully fit squad at his disposal.
GK – Jack Butland
There’s absolutely no doubt that Jack Butland is Rangers’ best goalkeeper. The Englishman has kept three clean sheets out of six so far this season with back-up Liam Kelly looking on from the bench.
RB – James Tavernier
Unbelievably, captain James Tavernier still splits opinion amongst the Rangers fanbase largely down to his lack of defensive awareness. But his goals and assists over the years have been crucial for the club.
CB – Neraysho Kasanwirjo
The club’s deadline day signing from Feyenoord, loanee Neraysho Kasanwirjo told Rangers fans what to expect from him this season.
The 22-year-old Dutchman said: “I am a defender who likes to play with the ball. Obviously, I can play my duels, I am fast, I am strong, I can play. That is what the coach is looking for.”
CB – Robin Propper
Kasanwirjo is likely to be partnered with Robin Propper at the heart of the Rangers defence. Propper joined for a fee of £1.5m from FC Twente.
LB – Jefte
This was a difficult choice to make because it is evident that Jefte isn’t a natural defender. The Brazilian appears much more comfortable as a left-winger but Oscar Cortes should assume that role once he is back fit and firing.
CM – Connor Barron
The former Aberdeen man is a stick-on for one of the two central midfield roles for Rangers at the moment. He has been an outstanding addition so far and will act as the link between defence and attack.
CM – Mohamed Diomande
Diomande made his Rangers stay permanent for £4.3m in the summer and he’ll play alongside Barron for the season ahead. The Ivorian is energetic and is comfortable in more advanced positions.
CAM – Nedim Bajrami
Rangers were crying out for a creative advanced midfielder after the sale of Todd Cantwell and given Ianis Hagi is still bombed out of the first-team. Albanian star Bajrami could be an exciting signing after joining on deadline day for £3.5m.
RW – Vaclav Cerny
After his start to the season, Czech Republic international Cerny won’t be relinquishing his right-wing spot anytime soon. The left-footed 26-year-old enjoys cutting inside and causing opposition defences havoc with his passing and shooting.
LW – Oscar Cortes
We’ve yet to see the best of Oscar Cortes in a Rangers shirt but he did show glimpses last season that he will grow and grow as his Ibrox career progresses.
ST – Cyriel Dessers
Dessers has shrugged off heavy criticism to become the undisputed first-choice striker at Rangers. The Nigerian has already netted five goals in six games this campaign.
