Morgan Whittaker to Rangers: Report makes transfer interest claim

Rangers remain “keen” to secure a deal for Swansea City attacker Morgan Whittaker after failing in a January bid for the 10-goal winger.

That’s according to the Daily Record and journalist Scott Burns, who have made the claim as part of an extensive report into Rangers’ summer transfer plans.

They claim that, while a Rangers deal for Luis Palma is a non-starter, the club retain an interest in signing Morgan Whittaker who has struggled for game-time since returning to Swansea in January.

However, the report claims that any prospective Rangers move for Morgan Whittaker is dependent on the two clubs striking a deal and Swansea haven’t exactly been easy to deal with previously.

One of the best performers at League One level in the first half of the season, Whittaker had netted nine goals for Plymouth Argyle before Russell Martin’s side recalled him in the last window.

Rangers could revisit Morgan Whittaker interest

Rangers manager Michael Beale appeared to confirm a January Ibrox bid for the attacker, but rubbished claims from Fabrizio Romano that the figure reached £2m.

The entire thing even saw Swans boss Martin apologise for a hopeless Ibrox loan spell in 2018, where the centre-back goes down as one of the worst patchwork signings the club has ever made.

Since then teammates of Whittaker have spoken honestly about the impact such upheaval and transfer speculation has had on his season, with the winger struggling to break into the Swansea XI.

Scoring only once in 15 Championship games this season, 13 of which have come from the bench, it’s not exactly the kind of sparkling form that will have Rangers fans salivating.

But Beale clearly sees something in the kid and the Rangers manager has proved himself shrewd in the transfer market already.

Todd Cantwell is emerging as an Ibrox hero, while Nicolas Raskin is hoping to realise heady ambitions at Rangers.

The club are also said to be closing in on deals for out-of-contract trio Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell heading into a big summer at Rangers.
