Rangers are reportedly lining up a three-pronged free-contract start to their summer rebuild as Dujon Sterling looks set to join Jack Butland and Kieran Dowell in signing on at Ibrox.

Versatile Chelsea full-back Dujon Sterling can play across the defence and also in a variety of midfield positions and the 23-year-old is the latest name closing in on a move to Glasgow.

Currently on loan at Stoke City – where Sterling has impressed in 23 Championship matches this season – the Evening Standard are claiming the player is now set to move to Rangers.

These Sterling reports follow earlier claims which suggest Rangers are closing in on another two England-based players who are set to be out of contract heading into next season.

Will Dujon Sterling join Jack Butland and Kieran Dowell at Rangers?

The most high-profile free agent linked with the Gers is former England international goalkeeper Jack Butland, who is reportedly close to joining Rangers when his current deal expires at Crystal Palace come the end of the season.

The 30-year-old stopper is currently on loan at Manchester United and, with Rangers potentially needing to replace the likes of Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin, a move makes sense.

There is also Norwich City midfielder Kieran Dowell, who is also available on a pre-contract at the end of the campaign and has been linked with a move to Rangers.

A one-time Steven Gerrard target, the 25-year-old was a highly rated England youth international during his time with Everton and he is clearly well known to Michael Beale.

While moves for either player have yet to be officially confirmed, there are mounting reports that alongside Sterling, Butland and Dowell will be Rangers players come the summer.

Rangers manager Beale has been clear that this summer’s rebuild will be the biggest Ibrox has seen in the last few years and these three players would represent a solid, and cost-effective, start to such an important window.
