A high-profile clash with Rangers manager Michael Beale hints that reported Ibrox interest in QPR striker Lyndon Dykes might never get off the back pages after all.

The Gers have once again been mentioned alongside the Scotland international striker, 27, who has been linked with a move to Rangers year-on-year ever since his time at Livingston in 2018.

Once again Rangers were mentioned this summer, this time in the Daily Mail, who merely suggested the Ibrox club were “following” the progress of Lyndon Dykes alongside English Premier League Burnley and – more serious suitors – Championship Millwall.

But amid Rangers’ increasingly unsure striker search, and reports that a move for Cyriel Dessers is on the verge of collapse, the comments were enough get Ibrox supporters talking.

Lyndon Dykes in choice Michael Beale parting shot

For any of those who’ve been paying attention, they might make note of the very public reaction of Lyndon Dykes to the departure of Michael Beale for Rangers whilst the boss took charge at QPR.

The ex-Ibrox assistant had just turned down an approach from Premier League Wolves, reiterating his loyalty to the Rs, before jumping at the opportunity to take the reins at his beloved Rangers.

Lyndon Dykes would then react to Michael Beale’s departure by taking to Instagram and sharing an emoji of a snake alongside a clip from the song West Connect by Luciano with the lyrics “watch for the snakes, watch for the vermin, this weren’t a mistake, did it on purpose.”

Hardly the joyous good luck message Michael Beale might’ve hoped for.

Couple this with the Rangers manager claiming months ago that the Gers would not be raiding the Rs this summer, and suddenly those Lyndon Dykes reports appear a tad advantageous.

It’s a suggestion backed up the Rangers Review, who claimed that the striker is not “under consideration” at Ibrox with the Gers “pursuing other targets” as the outlet gave an update on links to both Dykes and Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell.

Rangers striker hunt does continue however, even if those Cyriel Dessers claims suggest the Gers have now missed out on three top targets this summer.
