Italian coach bombs £15m star out of squad completely amid Rangers links

Harry Souttar is bombed out of the Leicester City squad completely as Enzo Maresca moves in a different direction and those Rangers links dissipate.

The 24-year-old Australia centre-back was not even named in the squad for the 1-0 victory over Huddersfield as the Italian coach made it three wins on the bounce since taking the job in the summer.

This comes after the ex-Stoke defender, who cost Leicester a reported £15m in January, missed the Foxes’ opening day Championship victory over Coventry City and the League Cup win over Burton Albion.

Leicester coach Enzo Maresca has previously been asked about the absence of Harry Souttar and has admitted that the player’s lack of appearances are due to a “technical decision”.

Rangers not looking at Leicester City’s Harry Souttar?

This comes after reports linking Rangers with a move for Harry Souttar were shot down by manager Michael Beale, who described links to the Leicester City defender as “lazy”.

Harry Souttar is the brother of Rangers defender John, whilst the Socceroos centre-back is also a diehard Rangers fan.

“Harry Souttar, there might be a bit of lazy stuff around that because his brother plays for us and he follows our club,” said Beale following the 2-1 Champions League QR3 win over Servette.

“If there is any news on that then you will be the first to know.”

Rangers were linked to Harry Souttar by TalkSPORT reporter Geoff Peters, who claimed that the Ibrox side were exploring a loan deal with “other clubs also monitoring the situation”.

Whilst Rangers do not appear to be in the hunt for Harry Souttar, the club have been linked with a series of left-sided centre-backs during this window.

Interest in Sheffield United-bound Auston Trusty and Nottingham Forest talent Jonathan Panzo has now cooled, even if many fans view the position as a signing priority.

Speaking about the situation around Ben Davies, Michael Beale was also coy on the player’s future, with the centre-back one of four first-team options in the position.
