Manager shares blunt message after dropping Rangers-linked ace

Rangers have been linked with a move for Harry Souttar with Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca seemingly not convinced.

Gers fans probably didn’t have transfers on the mind during Wednesday’s Champions League qualifying win over Servette.

Well, maybe some did after a fairly drab second-half display.

Still, a surprise rumour emerged not even 15 minutes into the clash with Servette.

TalkSPORT reporter Geoff Peters claimed on Twitter that Rangers have an interest in signing Leicester City defender Harry Souttar on loan.

Souttar’s brother John already plays for Rangers and it was suggested that they could join forces at Ibrox.

Souttar cost Leicester a hefty £15million fee back in January but may already be on his way out of Leicester.

Michael Beale was asked about the rumour after beating Servette and whilst he played it down, he didn’t exactly rule it out either.

Souttar is a huge presence at the back, different to anything Rangers really have at the moment and landing a £15million player on loan always sounds good.

Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca comments on Harry Souttar

The rumours of Rangers wanting Souttar emerged as the Australian international was left out of Leicester’s Carabao Cup clash with Burton Albion.

Leicester won 2-0 but Souttar’s complete absence became a big talking point.

Boss Enzo Maresca went with a back three and named two centre backs on the bench in Jannik Vestergaard and youngster Ben Nelson.

Maresca was of course asked about Souttar after the final whistle but gave a rather blunt response to the Leicester Mercury.

“It was a technical decision, no more than that,” said Maresca.

It may well be that Souttar doesn’t quite fit Maresca’s approach and he may be in an uphill battle for first-team action.

There may well be a deal there for Souttar if Rangers pursue it, and maybe Beale will explore a deal if Ben Davies ends up moving on.
