Rangers boss Michael Beale has addressed the future of Ben Davies amid reports that the defender could leave the club this summer.

Speaking ahead of the Ibrox side’s 2-1 Champions League QR3 first leg victory over Servette, the Ibrox manager was asked about the situation regarding the centre-back.

Michael Beale confirmed that Ben Davies is still out of action with an injury and whilst a return to training is imminent, the ex-Preston star is not quite ready to return.

Then pressed on the player’s transfer situation, Michael Beale wasn’t giving too much away but suggested that Ben Davies is still available for selection.

This comes with the defender having been left out of the Champions League squad for the double-header with the Swiss side.

“Ben will return to training probably Tuesday or Wednesday next week,” said Michael Beale.

“I think that at this moment in time Ben’s still up and available for selection. For this European squad you only have only have to pick for this round.

“So I picked the squad for the next two weeks; Tom Lawrence hasn’t featured for a long time, Kemar Roofe is only just back in.

“Ben wasn’t available, Rabbi got injured the day that we submitted the squad, so that was unlucky.”

Michael Beale: Ben Davies still a Rangers player

One year on from the defender’s reported £4m move to Ibrox from Liverpool, there has been major chatter regarding a summer exit.

The likes of Ibrox media partners Heart & Hand have previously suggested the player “will be sold” this summer whilst reports have suggested there is interest from the English Championship.

Michael Beale didn’t give too much away with regards to a potential exit but as the player recovers from an injury the next few weeks could be definitive ones in his Ibrox career.

Rangers fans remain unconvinced about Ben Davies and with the Ibrox side’s defensive situation under intense fan scrutiny, perhaps Michael Beale will be fielding more questions on the centre-back in the weeks ahead.
