The latest transfer news suggests Rangers are about to bank £5.5m from the sale of Glen Kamara – with one key area of the squad surely set to benefit.

According to the Herald and the reputable Chris Jack, Finnish international Kamara will be the highest-profile transfer out of Ibrox this summer with six clubs currently tailing him.

The reported fee of £5.5m is certainly not insignificant and Rangers fans will have one eye on any movement this week and what happens with a large chunk of the money this summer.

With Rangers well stocked in midfield, Jose Cifuentes adding to the likes of Ryan Jack, Nicolas Raskin and John Lundstram in the position, Glen Kamara has already been replaced ahead of his impending transfer.

It means that any money which comes in for the ex-Arsenal academy kid can be reinvested elsewhere with that left-sided centre-back position the subject of huge debate this week.

Glen Kamara transfer funds can aid ailing defender hunt

With Ben Davies currently sidelined – and major doubts surrounding his future at Rangers – Michael Beale’s decision to put John Souttar in beside a stuttering Borna Barisic on that side of the pitch against Kilmarnock cost the club big.

Conceding from a throw-in, it was calamity stuff from Rangers and the club’s supporters are pushing for high-profile investment at centre-back in a statement to Rangers’ stuttering options.

With Connor Goldson, Ben Davies, John Souttar and Leon Balogun all besieged with injuries in recent seasons too, there are major doubts regarding their reliability whether they are on or off the park.

Rangers have been linked to two left-sided centre-backs in particular this summer, but with deals for either Auston Trusty and Jonathan Panzo now officially off the table the situation is a developing issue.

Investment is needed in the position and if the mistakes continue then so will the criticism with centre-back an area of grave concern for the last two seasons now.

When Glen Kamara’s transfer out of Rangers is concluded, the number one priority for the club has got to be a first-team level defender who can breathe fresh life into a nervous, injury-prone and accident-plagued backline.
