Issame Charai might only have been in situ at Rangers for under a month but the Moroccan coach finds himself stepping up at Ibrox.
After Rangers sacked manager Philippe Clement, Charai has taken first-team training with the ex-Morocco U23s manager tasked with steadying the ship.
Now, with Rangers looking to Barry Ferguson in a potential interim team appointment, Issame Charai is being asked to go one step further and actually take charge of the team.
Issame Charai asked to take charge of Rangers
According to STV Sport, Issame Charai will be in charge of Rangers when the club heads to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership this week.
The 42-year-old Belgian-born coach will take the Rangers squad to Rugby Park with Derek McInnes keen to heap the pressure on at Ibrox.
Rangers News believes McInnes would be interested in taking the Rangers manager’s job full time but it remains unclear if the coach is under consideration.
Rangers are expected to appoint an interim manager with Issame Charai set to be part of any backroom team the club eventually agrees on.
Philippe Clement’s exit has been supplemented with two of his assistants also leaving the club in the shape of Stephan Van Der Heyden and Alex Rae.
Rangers set to appoint interim manager
Rangers are reportedly set to meet with ex-Ibrox captain Barry Ferguson over the vacant Ibrox manager’s position.
It’s being claimed that Rangers are looking for someone to come in on an interim basis until the end of the season to steady the ship.
The Rangers legend won 15 domestic honours at Ibrox and led the club to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final in Manchester, so the current team would be left in no doubt about expectations at Ibrox.

Rangers are also hunting for a new sporting director and are currently in the midst of a wide-reaching internal review into what’s going on under the bonnet of the club.
With widespread reporting surrounding a US takeover of Rangers in the coming months, the next appointment will be about providing stability before a more permanent successor is considered.
