It’s hard to believe it was only a few weeks ago that the pitchforks were being sharpened against Todd Cantwell – especially when a Dundee Utd dive shows up the startling difference in coverage.
Big bad Rangers are always an easy hit for the press and January signing Todd Cantwell, who’s coincidentally made a bright start to his Ibrox career, got the Scottish media treatment v Motherwell.

The midfielder was heavily involved in an eventual 4-2 win for Rangers, even scoring in the match, but it was a flashpoint with midfielder Callum Slattery which grabbed the headlines.
Slattery received a second yellow card for visibly catching Todd Cantwell on the face with his elbow, and yet it was the reaction of the ex-Norwich star which made headlines and earned dive accusations.
Watch it again via Sportscene below – where you’ll also see Motherwell employee and ex-Rangers star Ricky Foster’s woeful attempt at a Tyson Fury joke – and make your own mind up.
The BBC then had Steelmen manager Stuart Kettlewell on the radio decrying the decision, with the manager greeting to head of refereeing Crawford Allen despite replays showing the call to be the correct one.
Bevis Mugabi also had his say, as gleeful and rage-inducing tabloid headlines did what they always do and embarrass the Scottish game.
Todd Cantwell Dundee Utd dive coverage contrast an embarrassment
Yet now, we’ve barely heard a peep from the same publications when it comes to the quite simply shocking dive from Dundee Utd star Aziz Behich.
The left-back went down like a sniper had offed him from the top of the stand and Rangers captain James Tavernier laughably got a yellow card in the process.
In fact, some have even tried to turn the situation on Malik Tillman, who had himself attempted the theatric in the box in the hunt for a penalty.
Make your own mind up here Rangers fans. On one side, we’re seeing a bright young talent in Todd Cantwell being accused of cheating whilst another player’s genuinely pathetic dive is ignored.
Put it down to the fact Dundee Utd are relative nobodies, put it down to the fact this type of Rangers-bashing content is lapped up by the hordes, but the difference in coverage is startlingly clear.
