Those Todd Cantwell comments of BBC Sportscene pundit Richard Foster have been branded “strange” by David Preece in the aftermath of Rangers’ victory over Motherwell.
The former Ibrox full-back lashed out at Todd Cantwell following the 4-2 Gers victory at Fir Park, claiming that the player essentially dived to get Callum Slattery sent off.
The Motherwell midfielder was shown a second yellow card for catching Todd Cantwell with a trailing arm in the clash, with Richard Foster unloading on BBC Sportscene after the game.
Richard Foster, who was recently appointed to an academy role with Motherwell, used the national broadcaster to brand Todd Cantwell an “absolute embarrassment”.
“This one is an absolute embarrassment from Cantwell, his reaction is an absolute embarrassment,” said Richard Foster.
“Nick Walsh has every right to believe that he’s been elbowed really hard in the face. I don’t think Tyson Fury would knock him down as quickly as that.
“He throws his hands to his face and then he throws his whole body back the way.”
Richard Foster Todd Cantwell comments called out
The BBC would then also broadcast comments from Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell in the aftermath of the game, with the Fir Park boss claiming he’d contacted the SFA about the incident and insisting there had been no “contact” with Cantwell’s face.
Replays clearly show that Callum Slattery has an outstretched arm and gave Nick Walsh a decision to make so the extremely personal comments have not gone down well in Rangers circles.
The Richard Foster coverage has also been called out by ex-Aberdeen goalkeeper-turned-goalkeeping-coach and pundit David Preece, who branded the Todd Cantwell take as “strange” on Twitter.
“Strange bit of punditry this,” initially tweeted David Preece.
“Regardless of Cantwell, it’s a yellow. 100% Ricky is going down if it’s him too.
“It’s not just the bias. On a professional level you’d think he’d have a more measured response than some bloke in the pub.
“Just seems unprofessional to me.”
This is the same Motherwell who we’ve no doubt would be praising smart play from one of their players with the roles reversed.
Now six points off the relegation zone, let’s hope that the new manager bounce relents and the Rangers defeat helps spiral them into a Championship dogfight.
Meanwhile, that James Tavernier Scottish Cup semi-final talk is cheap.
