Motherwell have taken their complaints to the SFA after a woeful weekend of officiating was summed up by wonky VAR lines in Rangers’ victory at Fir Park.
Both Motherwell’s opener and Rangers’ third goal through Fashion Sakala appeared to be offside but were ruled onside with the use of the technology.
But in the official justifications the lines drawn on the screen appeared to be exceptionally wonky, especially against the cut of the grass.
According to the Daily Record, this has resulted in Motherwell taking their complaints to the SFA with a red card flashpoint involving Todd Cantwell also the subject of their notice.
Motherwell seen Callum Slattery sent off for a second yellow card after a trailing arm was adjudged to catch Todd Cantwell, consigning the Steelmen to a 4-2 defeat to Rangers.
Motherwell raise SFA complaints after Rangers VAR calls
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell criticised the Rangers star on BBC Sportsound after the match and revealed that he’d talked to head of refereeing Crawford Allan about the incident.
“It’s not a second yellow but with the player’s reaction, and I’ve said this to Crawford Allan this morning and had a conversation with him,” said Kettlewell.
“And look it was an amicable conversation, I just had a couple of questions I wanted answers on – but I did say I realise Nick Walsh’s job become incredibly difficult when the player goes down in the fashion that he did, holding his face.
“There was contact, but it wasn’t in his face. This is when you start to become frustrated. It’s a difficult one for Nick Walsh with the scenario he was given, but I don’t think it was a yellow card.”
This is after Motherwell defender Bevis Mugabi, who scored a Fir Park equaliser in the match, criticised the use of VAR in the Rangers clash, branding the calls “a bit suspect”.
It puts the cherry on an awful weekend of officiating in Scottish football, with big mouth Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou refusing to be drawn on several favourable decisions for his side in their 3-1 win over Hibs.
This is after Hibs star Elie Youan was dubiously sent off for a second-yellow card in the first half.
The Easter Road side have also raised complaints to the SFA for the decisions, which come after Celtic’s moonhowling complaints about referees earlier in the season.
There were also high profile incidents in Killie’s clash with St Johnstone and St Mirren’s draw with Dundee United.
Meanwhile, Gers-linked Oliver McBurnie has found form at Sheffield Utd.
