Danny Rohl is expected to be unveiled as the new Red Bull Salzburg head coach on Sunday, as his Rangers tenure nears an end.

The news brings to an end a turbulent managerial tenure at Rangers – a reign that began with extraordinary promise before unravelling spectacularly in the final weeks of the season.

Rohl arrived at Ibrox in October 2025 following Russell Martin’s disastrous 123-day spell and immediately transformed the club’s fortunes, turning them into genuine title contenders.

However, four consecutive defeats in the post-split fixtures, a third-place finish, and a series of damaging behind-the-scenes revelations ultimately cast doubt over the German tactician’s credentials.

Although Andrew Cavenagh offered his support to Rohl publicly after the season, there is a feeling that this is the best solution for all parties.

Now that Danny Rohl seems set to leave Rangers, how would you rate his time at the club?

Jurgen Klopp’s role revealed as Rohl exit timeline confirmed

According to Salzburger Nachrichten, Rohl is expected to be confirmed as the Salzburg boss on Sunday, no later than Monday.

The former Sheffield Wednesday manager is set to be presented as the club’s 18th head coach in their Red Bull era, three days before their pre-season training begins in Taxham on Wednesday.

The departing Rangers head coach is expected to be in charge of that session, regardless of when his arrival is announced.

None other than Jurgen Klopp, in his role as Red Bull’s global head of football, personally championed Rohl‘s appointment at Salzburg, playing a decisive role in steering the search towards his compatriot.

The pair share a connection through the German football ecosystem, with Rohl having built his coaching reputation working alongside some of the game’s finest minds, including Ralph Hasenhuttl, Niko Kovac and Hansi Flick.

His appointment represents a homecoming of sorts to the Red Bull football universe, as he began his coaching career in match analysis at RB Leipzig before his rapid rise through the ranks.

Rangers held Rohl on a long-term contract, which is why Salzburg were required to pay a compensation fee.

The Austrian outlet reported that the Gers have received around £1.73million, but Rangers News has been told that the fee is in the region of £4m.

What would your concerns be about Derek McInnes replacing Danny Rohl?

What it means for Rangers

Cavenagh has wasted no time in identifying a replacement for Rohl, making clear that he is not interested in yet another prolonged manager hunt.

Rangers have agreed a deal to hire Derek McInnes as their new head coach on a three-year deal, with Hearts set to receive a six-figure fee.

The 54-year-old now inherits the Ibrox dugout, and the clock is already ticking, with pre-season just days away.
