If anyone was going to be able to attract an England international to Ibrox, it’d probably be the England international at the helm of the club.
Rangers and Steven Gerrard have been linked with two electric options up front in this window. One is a Premier League striker of old with plenty of juice left in the tank.
The other is widely touted as being the nation’s next leading man.
Jermain Defoe was made available by Bournemouth yesterday and Rangers are the reported frontrunners. The Ibrox side also remain in with a shout for Dominic Solanke after Crystal Palace pulled out of a deal.
Both are options for a short term loan at the club. As the reported Steven Davis deal is ironed out, the attention has now shifted to our forward line.
Rangers need strength in depth. They need quality, but they also need a striker who can make an impact straight away. As well as take the pressure off Alfredo Morelos.
Dominic Solanke
Whilst Solanke brings glamour, the breakdown of his move to Palace is worrying.
It looks like it comes down to his recovery from injury and Palace’s need for him to come into the side and perform straight away. Rangers on the other hand don’t kick a ball again until the 18th of January. He is struggling to get into a rampant Liverpool side but is clearly well thought of at Anfield, even if he’s yet to play this year.

He’s robust, physical and a handful up front.
Would he be fit by then? If he is, we’ve got a top European talent who’s more than capable of firing us into a title race.
Jermain Defoe
Defoe might be 36, but Eddie Howe has commented on his professionalism whilst he’s been out of a competitive Bournemouth side.
The striker is a class act and would be a superb addition. If 38-year-old Kenny Miller can score hattricks in Scotland, Jermain Defoe will have a field day. He’s been lethal his entire career and this is the sort of move that will also reignite his passion for the game.

The striker has only played eight times for Bournemouth and has yet to score this year. But Defoe’s reported £100k a week wages could prove a stumbling block. Even if he does have the same agent as Rangers Manager Steven Gerrard.
He’s also interesting rivals Celtic, according to the Scotsman.
Which England international do you think is the better fit, if at all?
