Brendan Rodgers reacts to Rangers sacking Michael Beale

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers claims he is “saddened” by the sacking of Rangers boss Michael Beale over the weekend.

The Ibrox manager’s card was marked after a devastating 1-0 home defeat to Celtic earlier in the season and the situation has worsened since then.

A 3-1 loss to northeast rivals Aberdeen meant the jig was finally up with Rangers now seven points behind Celtic after only seven games played.

Despite his role in the sacking of Michael Beale, Brendan Rodgers claims the situation brings him no pleasure and has tipped the ex-Ibrox assistant to bounce back somewhere else.

“I’m always saddened when any manager loses their job, no matter what club they work at,” Brendan Rodgers said.

“When you manage Celtic or Rangers they are big pressure jobs and I’m sure Michael will go away and reflect on his time here and no doubt he’ll come in again.

“He’s an outstanding young coach and he’ll go away and reflect on the pressure and expectation he was under and the stress this job can bring. He’ll learn from it and go on and get another job and make a success out of it, I’m pretty sure.

“It’s not nice when someone loses their position and I hope him the best for the future.”

Michael Beale successor tasked with challenging Brendan Rodgers

All attentions are now focused on who Rangers will sign to take on Brendan Rodgers and Celtic following the exit of Michael Beale.

The club’s hierarchy have been clear that they will take their time over the appointment with a team headed by Rangers legend Steven Davis to take charge of the club for the matches against AEL Limassol and St Mirren.

Rangers CEO James Bisgrove is set to miss the trip to Cyprus to focus on Beale’s successor, with the pressure on both the ex-marketing director and new chairman John Bennett to get the appointment right.

The latest reports have suggested that Rangers have a four-man shortlist to take over the club whilst there have been as many as ten names mentioned in the media.

Whoever comes in will need to put up stauncher resistance to Brendan Rodgers and Celtic with Michael Beale quickly finding himself out his depth at Rangers.
