Rangers take on St Mirren in the second of two away fixtures this week with the chance to cut the gap at the top of the table, even if just for 24 hours.

Gers boss Philippe Clement has a few injury issues but, as we saw against Hibs, is still able to field a strong team as the squad starts to look a bit stronger.

Rangers last visit to St Mirren saw Steven Davis end his short tenure as manager with a win and Clement will be hoping for a repeat – this is who he has picked to get the job done.

Rangers v St Mirren – team news confirmed

Connor Goldson will be a welcome sight in the defence once again.

John Souttar and Leon Balogun played well enough at Easter Road but there were a few organisational issues that saw Jack Butland busier than he would want to be.

Ridvan Yilmaz seems to be getting better and better but Jefte is said to be arriving from Fluminense this week, speculation will now ramp up as to who he is replacing.

Common sense says it should be Borna Barisic given his contract situation, unless the £5m valuation of Ridvan has been met that is.

John Lundstram is showing the sort of consistency and level of performance under Clement that we have been crying out for with Nicolas Raskin and Dujon Sterling offering pace, energy and drive alongside him.

Being able to rotate the younger pair is a handy weapon to have, playing both means that we should dominate the midfield.

At ten, it is now a straight shoot out between Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence, but for a dubious offside call, both would have scored in the capital, however, Clement has decided to move the former forward a line on this occasion.

Like Sterling and Ridvan, it is a strange feeling to have two players of such quality available for one position once again.

This is who the Rangers boss has picked to face St Mirren:

The forward line saw two assists and one goal against Hibs with Fabio Silva the only one not able to add numbers to his hard-working performance, Cyriel Dessers goal scoring form sees him given another chance from the start.

It’s never an easy place to go to but it’s a great opportunity to apply just a little bit more pressure on Celtic, an opportunity that we can’t afford to miss.
