Rangers took on an Aberdeen side fresh from a great result at Pittodrie and buoyed by having a new man in charge as Philippe Clement looked to avenge the two previous poor league results against the Dons.
The Gers boss has more quality available in his squad now as players return from injury and with Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes also hoping to become firm favourites at Ibrox, Fabio Silva is already on the right path.
With Rangers hoping to apply pressure at the top of the table against Aberdeen, here are your player ratings.
Rangers v Aberdeen – player ratings
A couple of surprises were sprung by the manager with the line-up but this is how they score:
Jack Butland – 6
Solid early stop from Jamie McGrath but was hung out to dry by Connor Goldson for Aberdeen’s equaliser.
Question marks over whether or not he could have reacted quicker after the defender lost first contact.
James Tavernier – 6
Playing in his narrower role again, could have added a second but sclafffed an effort from 12-yards wide with his left foot, on his right you’d expect him to score.
Ridvan Yilmaz – 6
A willing runner and linked up well with Rabbi Matondo but nothing seemed to come off for him or defenders just nicked the ball off his toes.
Connor Goldson – 4
One job to do.
Aberdeen have one tactic, long balls and Goldson switched off again to let Bojan Miovski in.
He was also outmuscled.
John Souttar – 7
Didn’t put a foot wrong and drove out of defence on numerous occasions rather than just hitting hopeful long balls.
John Lundstram – 8
His level of recent weeks didn’t drop and was a constant force trying to drive the attack on.
Tom Lawrence – 8
Was involved in some excellent passages of play in the first-half, moved the ball quickly and looked to get the wingers in space as quickly as possible.
Fired a couple of well struck efforts on target with one cleared off the line and then forced the save for Rangers second with a screamer that Kelle Roos couldn’t hold.
Todd Cantwell – 9
Looked focussed from the first whistle, had Graeme Shinnie chasing shadows and was picking the ball up in dangerous areas.
Teammates should have done more with some of the passes he was giving them.
In the right place at the right time again to pick up the rebound from Tom Lawrence’s long range effort.
Ross McCausland – 6
Clement obviously likes him but it feels a bit like Groundhog Day, has to improve his shooting.
Rabbi Matondo – 6
Great positioning for his goal but his lack of composure is so frustrating.
Still choosing the wrong option too often, should have made it 2-0.
Cyriel Dessers – 5
Couldn’t get involved in the first-half and when he did get the ball, his first touch wasn’t good enough or he was snatching at half chances.
Substitutes
Oscar Cortes – 7
Won a corner with his first touch and caused problems from the moment he came on, a threat off either foot.
Fabio Silva – 7
Looked infinitely sharper than Dessers after being introduced.
Dujon Sterling – 5
Introduced as Lawrence tired to strengthen the midfield and put in a power of running, rash challenge but Don Robertson couldn’t get the red card out quick enough despite not booking Duk earlier for an obvious second yellow.
Mohamed Diomande – 6
On late but showed some nice touches.
