With Todd Cantwell fit and firing again, Scott Wright’s injury shouldn’t have much of an effect on Rangers team selection but what it should see is Ross McCausland given more of a chance.

Playing for the B team against Icelandic champions Breidablik, the 20-year old winger has had a busy weekend after coming off the bench for the first team against Hibernian on Saturday too.

Rangers don’t have any quality depth on the wing just now thanks to Michael Beale’s summer recruitment plan but another impressive display should see Ross McCausland trusted to play a bigger role.

Rangers big break on the way for Ross McCausland

After creating two big chances against St Mirren before the international break, the Northern Irish youngster was at it again against Hibs. it’s easy to see why a new contract is rumoured.

A beautifully executed through ball saw Nicolas Raskin 1v1 with David Marshall only for the Belgian to delay taking his shot and get caught in possession.

The pass for Raskin another example of the composure that Ross McCausland has which was backed up in the B team’s 3-2 defeat to Breidablik.

After going close early on, the tricky winger clipped a well-taken finish to level the scores at 1-1 and looked like one of Rangers most likely to score throughout.

Kudos also has to go to Bailey Rice for the pass – are there any first team players who can hit that?

McCausland has always been capable of scoring goals and providing assists but has looked as though his game has gone up a level this season.

It was frustrating to see Scott Wright back in the starting line-up after serving his red card suspension, especially when McCausland had looked so composed against St Mirren and Clement will have been impressed with the youngster once again.

What shape and system Philippe Clement goes with will determine whether or not he needs wingers but he started with two against Hibs and you would expect him to look for consistency during his initial time in charge.

The Gers boss was happy to see McCausland contribute in the comfortable win, hopefully, he was happy enough to give him another chance.
