Rangers winger Ross McCausland nets a brace in front of watching scouts from south of the border on his Belfast homecoming with the Ibrox side’s B Team against Crusaders.

The young Northern Irish attacker, 20, started and finished the scoring in the match in Belfast, netting either side of an Aaron Lyall strike to impress as the Gers ran out 3-1 winners in a match that was taking place as part of the Crusader’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

Ross McCausland is highly-rated at Ibrox and would’ve impressed those watching scouts from English League Two sides Harrogate Town and Forest Green.

According to the Daily Record transfer blog [15/07: 17:26], both clubs had representatives in the Belfast crowd for the match and they surely would’ve been impressed by what they saw on the day.

Ross McCausland delighted with brace on Rangers homecoming

Speaking after the match, Ross McCausland also expressed his delight for making a scoring return to Belfast with Rangers as loan interest in the youngster heats up this summer.

“I’m over the moon,” Ross McCausland, who had a brief stint with Dutch club De Graafschap last season, told Rangers after the friendly clash.

“Coming home to play against Crusaders, it was a good game for me personally with my family being here and being back home in general. The boys played well today, and it was a good win.

“It’s been a dream my whole life to play for Rangers, so to be able to put that shirt on with my family watching and all my friends is an honour. To be able to score two goals in front of them is also amazing.”

There was another interesting subplot in the match with boxing hero and celebrity Rangers fan Carl Frampton also playing in the match.

The Northern Irish fighter would take to Twitter after the game to express his delight in playing for his “boyhood club” against his “other boyhood club”.

Ross McCausland is expected to move out on loan this season after making his first-team debut for Rangers back in 2022, the youngster also coming off the bench in the victory over Hibs at the end of last season.

A Northern Ireland youth international, McCausland has trained with Michael O’Neill’s first-team whilst young attacker Ross is contracted to Rangers until the summer of 2024.
