There seems to be a defensive drama surrounding Rangers opponents this week with PSV Eindhoven and Celtic sweating on who will line up in the middle of their back lines.

The Dutch giants saw Olivier Boscagli and Andre Ramalho depart at Ibrox and both players will be cutting it fine to be fit for Wednesday night.

Writing on his X feed, PSV Eindhoven correspondent Rik Elrfink has given an update that could give Rangers a boost ahead of their pivotal Champions League tie.

“Many questions about Boscagli: he can now train again, but trainer Peter Bosz will only definitively say tomorrow whether he can be used at PSV in the duel with Rangers.

“At least it doesn’t look that bad so.

“Ramalho is probably just usable.”

PSV Eindhoven struggles could hand Rangers advantage

Either way, both centre-halves are far from 100% and have hardly trained since playing for PSV against Rangers last week.

Ibrahim Sangare ended up playing in the centre of defence but Peter Bosz won’t want to deploy his main playmaker there again.

Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly a target having been on loan last season, however, he won’t be eligible, even if he is signed before the two sides meet again.

The PSV defence is there to be got at and the first choice pairing looked far from comfortable whenever it was turned and had to run towards their own goal, the backups surely can’t be any better.

With the tie so finely balanced, Michael Beale will be hoping for any advantage that he can get and if our opponents don’t have their best defenders available, even more pressure has to be applied.

On top of the injury issues, PSV could lose one of their star players in Johan Bakayoko given the interest from PSG.

Every little helps, and all that, not that you’d want to wish ill on others….
