Rangers are once again being linked with a move for Swansea City winger Morgan Whittaker as the Gers look to replace the influence of the outgoing Ryan Kent.

According to the Daily Record, the 22-year-old attacker remains a firm Ibrox target after the club failed with a very public January bid to bring Morgan Whittaker to Rangers.

The report claims that Rangers are looking to add Whittaker to their ranks this summer with the club having already secured deals for Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Sam Lammers.

Michael Beale a fan of Morgan Whittaker

Michael Beale was forced to answer questions on interest in Whittaker, who’d just been recalled from a successful loan spell with Plymouth Argyle, amid talk of January interest.

The winger had hit nine goals in the first half of what proved to a successful season for the Pilgrims, who wound up earning promotion from League One.

The second half of the season was nowhere near as productive for Morgan Whittaker, with suggestions that the unsettled treatment of the winger upset the rhythm of what was an initially promising season in the English third tier.

There’s also been plenty of hints from within Plymouth that they want a return for the Swansea attacker, with their sporting director claiming that there are opportunities to sign their loan players from last season permanently.

Can attacker improve on Ryan Kent numbers?

Whilst this isn’t the same level that Ryan Kent operated on – the former Liverpool winger costing Rangers £7m in 2019 – fans will be open-minded that Morgan Whittaker can add on top of Kent’s paltry numbers last season.

Despite the hefty price tag, Ryan Kent did not deliver enough for Rangers in forward areas and his return of three goals last season is a big reason why the campaign flopped domestically.

Now having signed for Fenerbahce, Rangers may well have a trick up their sleeve and have their eyes on a higher-profile target to replace the winger, especially given Whittaker was a January target.

But given he’s been target for Rangers since Michael Beale come back into the club, at the very least Rangers fans know that this is a player the Ibrox manager rates highly and for those putting their faith in the boss, that should be enough.
