Former Arsenal youth prospect Malcolm Ebiowei was on the scoresheet as Rangers U18s defeated Queen’s Park 3-2 at the Rangers Training Centre on Friday night.
A strong starting lineup featuring multiple new signings was named for the first fixture of the delayed Club Academy Scotland league season and the Gers came out on the right side of the five-goal thriller.
The U18s have been playing friendly matches since September and have struggled defensively at times, conceding three goals in a defeat to St Mirren and in a draw with Queen’s Park.
Those defensive frailties reared their head again on Friday night, but this time around, the attacking players did enough to secure victory.
Robbie Ure, who has recently made the step up from U16 level, was one of those on the scoresheet, alongside former Gunners prospect Ebiowei.
The 17-year-old midfielder joined the club in February and after months away due to the global health crisis, he appears to be getting into his stride. This was his second goal against Queen’s Park as he also netted in September’s friendly.

Summer signing, James Graham, also got off the mark.
The 16-year-old striker joined from Ross County in June despite interest from a ‘number of top English clubs’ [Rangers.co.uk] and he came off the bench in this one to score his first goal in Light Blue.
Good to get first goal of hopefully many tonight!🇬🇧 https://t.co/M6ll2PUXXF

Work needs to be done defensively, but this is an inexperienced group working under a new coaching dynamic and therefore, they’ll no doubt just be delighted to start their league campaign on a positive note.
