Xavi Simons once linked with Rangers could make bargain PSG return

Xavi Simons always seemed like a transfer target who was likely to be out of Rangers reach and news of his PSG to PSV Eindhoven move only further serve to underline this.

There have been reports about an option-to-buy clause all season but doubts have surrounded the finer details.

Now, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano, PSG have the month of July to decide if they want Xavi Simons back, just a year after being linked with Rangers.

The fee reported is a paltry €6m or around £5m, peanuts for a player who is so highly thought of.

With 22 goals and 12 assists, Simons was one of the best players in the Eredivisie last season and has been rewarded by establishing himself in the senior Netherlands side.

If PSG decide to take up the option, Simons has a decision to make.

Last summer, we will never know how realistic the chances of Xavi Simons moving to Rangers from the Ligue 1 giants was but he could well be about to up sticks again.

Should he return to Paris, there will be no Lionel Messi, maybe no Neymar and no Angel Di Maria.

He has also proven that he is going to be a future star on the European stage and a revamped PSG attack could have Simons and Mbappe at the heart of it – a mouth-watering prospect.

It will be a double-edged sword for PSV because they know that they could be losing a player valued at nearly ten-times what is in the clause but, if they hadn’t agreed to it, they might not have signed him in the first place.

For perspective, Malik Tillman’s buy-back clause was £9m and we as Rangers fans felt hard done by, imagine how PSV must feel.

Don’t feel sorry for them though because, if we draw the Dutch outfit again in the Champions League qualifiers, they will be considerably weaker if Simons jumps ship.

Someone get that flight to Paris booked, pronto.
