Fabrizio Romano drops update on Rangers-linked PSG starlet Xavi Simons

Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the future of Rangers-linked PSG wonderkid Xavi Simons.

Earlier this month, AS Diario reported that with Simons’ contract running down, Rangers and Gio van Bronckhorst were trying to convince his agent Mino Raiola that a switch to Ibrox would be a good idea.

The report got plenty of Bears very excited, given that the 18-year-old attacking midfielder has already made his senior PSG debut and has been shining in the UEFA Youth League this season.

In six group stage appearances, he bagged three goals and six assists.

The Scottish Sun soon claimed that Rangers weren’t in the hunt to sign him but links have persisted, with RMC Sport reporting earlier this week that Simons is ‘likely to leave’ PSG in the summer.

Transfer expert drops update on Rangers-linked PSG starlet

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Dutch youth international’s future.

‘Paris Saint-Germain offered Xavi Simons a new deal months ago,’ wrote the transfer expert on Twitter. ‘They want him to stay as he’s considered a ‘huge talent’ but his agent still wants to make sure he’ll (be) part of first team plans. If not, he’ll leave as free agent in June.’

‘Many clubs already asked for Xavi.’

Xavi Simons in high demand

If Rangers are interested in Simons, it’s clearly a boost that PSG have been unable to tie him down to a new deal.

The Gers haven’t been mentioned by name by transfer expert Romano, but it’s entirely possible that they’re one of the ‘many clubs’ to have already enquired about the teenager.

However, it does seem unlikely that Rangers will be able to land him if a number of European giants are also in the hunt.

There will be European football on offer at Ibrox next season but Simons’ former club Barcelona are amongst the sides to also already be linked and while they’re currently struggling in La Liga, the chance to be part of a rebuild under his namesake Xavi at the Camp Nou would surely be a big draw.

Rangers fans are also very excited by links to a 21-year-old star.
