Why Zak Lovelace has chosen to snub Rangers contract offer and become sixth January exit

Rangers pulled off a coup when they brought Zak Lovelace to the club from Millwall as a teenager.

Zak Lovelace made his debut for the Lions as a 15-year-old and the English Championship side had tried desperately to convince the striker to develop in London.

Lovelace would however choose to head north but after two-and-a-half years at Rangers defined by brief cameos and injury problems, the striker is set to return to the Den.

Zak Lovelace agrees Millwall transfer

That’s according to Raman Bhardwaj who is claiming Zak Lovelace is set to move to Millwall because the 19-year-old wants to move back to London.

Lovelace was first linked with a move back to Millwall over the weekend with the Lions going through a January of substantial investment.

Millwall completed the signing of Benicio Baker-Boaitey from Brighton earlier in the day, the club’s sixth move of a productive transfer window.

Zak Lovelace is now poised to become the seventh with Millwall 13th in the English Championship table.

Should a deal for the Rangers attacker go through Lovelace will be the sixth member of the Rangers first-team to leave the club this January.

Rangers have already sanctioned loan deals for Robbie Fraser (Livingston), Cole McKinnon (Ayr United), Kieran Dowell (Birmingham) and Rabbi Matondo (Hannover 96), whilst Alex Lowry (Wycombe) has left Ibrox permanently.

Rangers to lose major Ibrox talent

Rangers had offered Zak Lovelace a new deal with his contract set to expire this summer hoping the forward would follow the likes of Findlay Curtis and commit to Ibrox.

But now Rangers are set to lose one of the club’s top young talents despite Lovelace being promoted to the Ibrox first-team in recent weeks.

Philippe Clement had claimed Lovelace was missing the win over Ross County due to a toe injury and suggested the forward would’ve been involved otherwise.

“To be clear about Zak, he was today not in the selection because he had a problem with his toe,” Clement told the press after the 4-0 victory.

”So he got an injection yesterday from the doctor. So otherwise he would have been on the bench.”

Zak Lovelace has made eight first-team appearances for Rangers and saw a breakthrough campaign last season interrupted with a string of serious injuries.
