Venezia appear to be stealing a march over Rangers on transfer deadline day as they ‘make progress’ on one potential signing.
Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen are working around the clock today to bring in new reinforcements and beef up the first-team squad.
Departures have now allowed incoming activity to get going with Ben Davies and Scott Wright leaving for Birmingham City on a loan and permanent deal respectively.
Todd Cantwell also seems set to leave Rangers after a £600k deal was agreed with Blackburn Rovers. The wantaway playmaker is currently undergoing a medical.
As far as incomings, Rangers seem close to completing the signing of Neraysho Kasanwirjo from Feyenoord.
But they may now miss out on a winger who has been linked with the Ibrox giants for large parts of the summer.

Josip Brekalo Rangers blow?
Rangers links with Josip Brekalo have intensified in recent days with one report stating the Govan side were favourites to capture him on a loan deal.
It hasn’t been confirmed yet but it now appears Serie A side Venezia are closing in on the signing of Fiorentina outcast Brekalo.
Gazzetta dello Sport issued an update on their live transfer blog regarding Brekalo’s situation and it doesn’t make for good reading from a Rangers point of view.
It reads: “Venezia is making progress for the Croatian playmaker leaving Fiorentina. Josip Brekalo, after a year on loan at Hajduk Split, will leave the Viola in these final hours of the transfer market.
“The club most interested at the moment seems to be Venezia.”
No mention of Rangers
Described as the new Arjen Robben, Brekalo would be a fantastic addition to this Rangers squad, particularly given he is a natural left-winger.
The 26-year-old is nowhere near Fiorentina’s plans for the current season and a loan deal for Rangers seemed likely earlier in the week.
But the latest report above – with zero mention of Rangers – means it may now be unlikely Brekalo is announced as a new Ibrox player today.
It is transfer deadline day though so things can change. But for the moment, Venezia seem to be favourites to land Brekalo, who moved to Wolfsburg for a fee of £8.5m in 2016.
