Todd Cantwell ‘heading out the door’ in possible Rangers reunion

Rangers financial situation is well known with regards to the wage bill and having to make room before new additions can be made.

Philippe Clement will be hugely frustrated and has gone as far as to say that the goal posts have been moved as he sets about rebuilding the squad

With no Ibrox for the foreseeable future, Rangers fans are frustrated at the lack of transfer activity, although space and money could be about to be freed up.

Todd Cantwell could be in line for a Rangers reunion

According to Heart and Hand’s David Edgar, speaking on the Daily Update for the 22nd of July, it isn’t just Connor Goldson and James Tavernier that might be on the way out:

“One player who could be heading out the door is Todd Cantwell. Reports coming from papers in England that Rangers are prepared to listen to offers for him.

“Saudi Arabia interest with, apparently, James Bisgrove’s club Al Qadsiah interested in taking Todd Cantwell over there.”

With Philippe Clement using a number 10 in almost every game that he has been in charge, it seems strange to sell Rangers best one with just over a week until the first Champions League transfer deadline.

Last season injury to Cantwell just as he was on form derailed Rangers title hopes and he has shown that he can be the main man.

For whatever reason though, it looks like his days at Ibrox are numbered.

The 26-year old will take a lot of replacing.

Rangers recruitment task laid bare amid Cantwell claims

The Gers boss has already hinted that new arrivals could just be around the corner though:

“We’re not there where we want to be end of August but I don’t think it’s in one team in the world.

“The case, and I know everywhere supporters want that but it’s not possible.

“So, everybody’s working hard on that.

“How fast things go, you never have control on that because it has to do with yourself, what you can spend, with other teams whether they want to let players go and how much they ask for that and it’s about convincing also players.

“So, there are several players who are convinced that Rangers is a good place, but you still need negotiations around that.”

Rangers could potentially – ignoring personal opinion – lose five key players and the spine of the team from last season in Connor Goldson, James Tavernier, Cyriel Dessers, John Lundstram and Todd Cantwell.

That’s a lot of experience and, when you factor in European performances, a lot of quality too.

Nils Koppen and his recruitment team will have been working day and night with no margin for error.

The mistakes of last summer can’t be repeated and there must be more hits than misses to avoid a similar scenario.

Players like Joan Jordan and Luca Langoni are encouraging links as is the manager keeping in touch with Abdallah Sima

If they have done the hard work convincing players to sign for Rangers, you would like to think that fees have also been discussed.

It could be a very busy week
