No sooner has Alfredo Morelos got his Santos career back on track than reports surface linking the Colombia international with a move back to Europe.
The former Ibrox hero was part of the squad that won in their last fixture, including playing a key role in the decisive second goal.
At Rangers, Alfredo Morelos saw him name linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, however, the latest rumour suggests that staying at Santos would be a much better option according to The Glasgow Times.
Alfredo Morelos could be jumping ship from Santos
There always seemed to be interest from Turkey when he was at Rangers but the only concrete bids came from China and France.
The decision to see out his contract was expected to give Morelos the sort of opportunities that he always dreamed of and head to one of the top five leagues in Europe.
Instead, clubs from Russia and Azerbaijan were the ones putting offers on the table – despite continued rumours of a return to Glasgow.
News of Santos making an offer, despite being most of the way through their season, would have been exciting only for fitness issues and injury to see him make just 76 minutes in the famous white shirt.
The beginning of this campaign looks more promising though so it is a surprise to see Samsunspor being tipped as a contender for his signature on a loan to buy deal.
Santos are strapped for cash though so, getting a big earner – despite his recent cut – might be music to their ears, especially one making such a little impact.
It’s clear that he wants to return to Europe though, even his agent confirmed this shortly after signing for Santos:
“Plans for the winter – a return to Europe. A move to Russia would be absolutely wonderful.”
Why he would want to move to Russia, who are still under FIFA and UEFA restrictions, is beyond me – it’s not like he is paid peanuts as it is.
At Rangers, it always felt as if Alfredo Morelos was being poorly advised and it now looks like there are similar factors at play interfering with his time at Santos.
At 27-years old, he needs to concentrate on what matters most – playing football and scoring goals.
All he has to do is speak to his former Ibrox teammate Ryan Kent to see that playing in Turkey might not be the answer he is looking for.
