Vitesse bosses don’t want to sell winger Million Manhoef this January amid links to Rangers because it will all but consign them to Eredivisie relegation.
That’s even if the club’s Technical Director and management face the “hellish job” of convincing the Vitesse moneymakers not to sell the Netherlands U21 winger until the summer.
Rangers were named as the frontrunners in the pursuit of Million Manhoef earlier in the window with Leicester City another of the names prominently mentioned.
Dutch outlet de Gelderlander claim that there is “plenty of interest” from Italy and Spain in the winger but that the fee involved would not supplement the club’s relegation to the Dutch second tier.
Neither Rangers nor Leicester are not mentioned in the report, but it does mention the English Championship.
Bosnian striker could boost Rangers transfer hopes
Million Manhoef’s situation could soon however be taken out of the Vitesse management’s hands.
The report claims the situation involving banished Bosnian striker Said Hamulić is turning up the financial pressure on the cash-strapped Dutch outfit’s squad.
Hamulić is currently not training with the Vitesse first-team after a disastrous first-half of the season on loan from French Ligue 1 Toulouse.
Earning a salary of around €200k as part of the deal, Vitesse Technical Director Benjamin Schmedes needs to find a way to cut the deal short in order to sign someone who is actually going to contribute.
This is central to the cash-strapped side’s transfer hopes with Vitesse currently rooked to the bottom of the Premier League and in the midst of a takeover.
This comes against the backdrop of investigations into accusations of bankrolling from former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Vitesse want to keep hold of Million Manhoef
What this means is that as the window progresses Vitesse and Benjamin Schmedes could be forced to change tact on Million Manhoef.
The winger is the club’s prime prospect and even if they hope to stave off transfer interest until the summer the decision may well go over the heads of club management.
Philippe Clement meanwhile could have a clearer run to the winger given that Leicester City are instead said to be prioritising other areas of their squad.

In a report earlier in the week, the Championship were said to be looking at a left-sided centre-back – speaking volumes about Harry Souttar’s situation at the club – and a new number 8.
They’ve since moved for Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi.
Things meanwhile continue to be quiet on the Ibrox front in terms of incomings, with Sam Lammers set to go the opposite way amid those Gers links to Eredivisie star Million Manhoef.
