Leicester City have prioritised a new left-sided centre-back in the January window – raising questions over the status of summer Rangers target Harry Souttar.
The Gers were strongly linked with a last minute summer move for the Australian international defender, 25, who has only made four appearances for the club this season.
With the move potentially predicated on Rangers star Ben Davies completing a loan switch to Stoke City, the collapse of that proposed deal kept both players at their respective clubs.
But now a Leicester City transfer update raises questions over the future of the left-sided centre-back as manager Enzo Maresca hunts for another player in Harry Souttar’s position.
Leicester City look for Harry Souttar alternative
Whilst the Athletic don’t specifically mention Harry Souttar’s transfer status at Leicester City, the report claims a new left-sided centre-back is a “priority” for Enzo Maresca.
The Foxes have enjoyed a blistering start to the Championship season and are on course for a record-breaking points total, currently 10 points clear of Ipswich Town in second place.
But they are still hoping to reinforce their squad even if there is no direct update on Harry Souttar.
However, if Leicester City are to move for a new left-sided centre-half in this window, with a no.8 also said to be in the club’s sights, then one suspects Souttar might be heading out of the club.

Rangers on centre-back hunt?
Interestingly, Rangers do appear to be on the hunt for a new defender having being linked with a move for Scott McKenna throughout the January window.
The Nottingham Forest centre-back is reportedly available this winter having fallen out of favour at the City Ground.
Also out-of-contract in the summer, there are a number of reasons why a move for Scotland international Scott McKenna might be attractive to Rangers.
Not least because the defender is a left-sided centre-back and Rangers are yet to find a permanent partner to club stalwart Connor Goldson in the squad.
The finances involved in any Harry Souttar deal – the defender having cost Leicester a reported £15m last January – is potentially the biggest difference between the two.
Otherwise we reckon there’s only one winner out of the two.
After all, Rangers currently have Harry’s brother John Souttar on their books, whilst unlike Scott McKenna, the defender’s blood runs blue.
