Rangers left-back position is one that has caused much debate for the last few seasons with Ridvan Yilmaz now the centre of speculation.

Borna Barisic has played over 200 times for the club and yet it seems like he has never truly been accepted by some sections of the Ibrox support.

His latest challenger looks like he could be heading out the door though after it was reported that Rangers are considering an offer for Ridvan Yilmaz.

Rangers could be considering Ridvan Yilmaz deal

Galatasaray are said to have made official contact over a potential deal with Besiktas also hovering in the background should their former player be available at the right price.

The most reliable rumours seem to be coming from Italy though with Hellas Verona closer to securing a transfer for the 22-year old.

According to transfer journalist Nicolo Schira, Rangers are considering a bid from Verona for Ridvan Yilmaz and an exit looks close.

A story being backed up by Sky Sports News which only strengthens the claim.

In an ideal world, we probably wouldn’t want to be dealing with a club in the middle of a fire sale beset by financial difficulties but it is a proposal that works for Rangers.

If Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen have identified a left-back that they want as first choice then one of ours has to be moved on.

With Barisic being in the last six months of his contract, he has no real sell-on value which makes sense to sell the younger of the two.

It also means that there is more time to replace the Croatian in the summer.

If Verona are relegated and don’t take up the obligation or option to buy clause for Ridvan, he will return to Rangers with the benefit of having played in Serie A for five months.

We don’t lose anything.

If anything, should Ridvan play well, his value could go up and we can look for a better deal in the summer.

The future of Borna Barisic isn’t quite set in stone amid interest from Dinamo Zagreb and there is every chance that next season we could see two new players competing for the position.

A word of warning though, you never fully appreciate what you have until it’s gone and Rangers fans can apply that to Ridvan Yilmaz or the veteran international.
