Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has dropped a hint about Mikey Moore’s future that Rangers fans will love, but there is an important caveat that has been lost in translation on social media.
Moore’s loan spell at Ibrox last season captured the imagination of the Rangers support, and the desire to see the teenage winger return to Glasgow has become one of the most talked-about topics among the fanbase since his departure back to Tottenham.
That excitement reached fever pitch on Sunday when multiple X accounts began reporting that Sky Sports journalist and Spurs insider Bridge had confirmed Moore would go out on loan again this summer.
However, the reality of what Bridge actually said is meaningfully different, and Rangers fans deserve to know exactly what was and was not confirmed.
With Tottenham avoiding relegation, are you now more confident of Mikey Moore returning?
Danny Rohl would love to have him back!
What Tottenham insider Bridge actually said – and why the confusion happened
Speaking on the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Bridge addressed the futures of two Tottenham youngsters in quick succession, and it is the proximity of those two statements that appears to have caused the confusion.
“You’re not going to sell Mikey Moore”, Bridge said. “I’d like him to go back on loan. Will Lankshear, he will go back on loan.”
The distinction is critical. Bridge’s comment about Lankshear going out on loan appears to be insider information, while his statement about Moore is not a reported fact.
By running the two sentences together, several accounts applied the certainty of the Lankshear statement to Moore, and Last Word On Spurs reposting that misrepresentation on X only accelerated the misinformation spreading among Rangers supporters.
Amario Cozier-Duberry or Mikey Moore – who would you rather have at Rangers next season?
Rangers are interested in the Brighton attacker
What it means for Rangers
Bridge’s personal endorsement of another Moore loan is not without value, though.
A well-connected Spurs journalist publicly backing that outcome reflects a broader logic that is hard to argue with.
However, the Ibrox faithful should know exactly what they are reacting to.
A journalist’s opinion and preference are not a transfer confirmation, and that caveat matters.
For the Andrew Cavenagh-led club, Spurs avoiding relegation last season is a boost to their hopes of bringing Moore back.
It is certainly one to keep an eye on as the transfer window progresses.
