With Rangers having not much to play for domestically, attentions will soon start turning to the summer.
Of course the Europa League run looks like it can continue for now but being out of the Scottish Cup, and the title race barring a minor miracle, means there’s not much to look forward to on the domestic scene.
The squad once again needs some serious work to ensure the same doesn’t happen next season and with the 49ers Enterprises takeover expected to go through that will certainly help matters in terms of funding another rebuild.
Gers have already recruited Lyall Cameron on a pre-contract from Dundee. And while there is expected to be funds available for potentially extravagant additions, there are still some bargains to be had from the Scottish Premiership.
Here are some options Rangers could look to bring in on pre-contracts.

Josh Mulligan, Dundee
Before Rangers had secured the signing of Cameron, Andy Halliday had urged them to go for him AND his teammate Josh Mulligan, describing the latter as an ‘athletic monster’. If there is any interest, Gers are now facing competition with Hull City, West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers being linked.
Toyosi Olusanya, St Mirren
After ‘bullying’ the Gers defence in St Mirren’s recent win at Ibrox, Toyosi Olusanya is a wanted man. Eintracht Frankfurt have had scouts watching Olusanya while Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs are all interested. A potential squad depth option for the Light Blues.
Lawrence Shankland, Hearts
Yes, him again. Despite not enjoying the best of seasons for Hearts, their number nine could still be a smart pick-up for nothing. Just last month, Derek Ferguson admitted he thought Shankland could still be a target.
Jack MacKenzie, Aberdeen
Rangers could annoy Aberdeen further after the Connor Barron saga by bringing in Dons left-back Jack MacKenzie. His Pittodrie form earned him a Scotland call-up earlier this season, making him a player that could be cashed in in further down the line. Preston, Sheffield United and Stoke are thought to be taking a look.
Allan Campbell, Dundee United
Another player already linked as Rangers were credited with an interest before Campbell signed for Dundee United in January. The midfielder only moved to Tannadice on a short-term deal and is available on a free.
Bobby Wales, Kilmarnock
A really talented young forward, the 19-year-old has scored some goals of genuine quality for Killie. Once again attracting interest from England, the teen is someone Rangers could bring in, develop and sell on.
