Rangers could rival European foes for Premiership free agent who ‘bullied’ Gers

Ibrox was shellshocked when St Mirren left with a comfortable win over Rangers last month.

The defeat to the Buddies ended up being Philippe Clement’s last in charge of the club, coming just two weeks after the embarrassment of a Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Championship Queen’s Park

Gers flop Declan John shone in the game, to the frustration of home fans, but he was far from the only one.

Toyosi Olusanya was only introduced as a second half sub for Jonah Ayunga, to partner Mikael Mandron who had already been giving the home defence the runaround.

Olusanya forced Clinton Nsiala into another mistake as the 27-year-old made it 2-0 and ensured all three points would be going back to Paisley.

It was another impressive performance from the speedy frontman who has been having a brilliant season for Saints. And he just so happens to be out of contract in the summer.

Could Rangers rival Eintracht Frankfurt for Toyosi Olusanya?

As reported by Not the Old Firm, Olusanya has been scouted by Eintracht Frankfurt in recent weeks and Rangers‘ Europa League 2022 foes left suitably impressed.

Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs are all said to be interested too as well as clubs down south, where he was previously with Middlesbrough.

It raises the question – should Rangers be looking?

With a stated intention from Nils Koppen of concentrating more on signing talent from the Premiership. and starting with Lyall Cameron, it’s another one that is certainly worth consideration.

If scouts from Frankfurt are impressed with what they’ve seen then surely Rangers are at least weighing it up.

Olusanya is very well suited to the Scottish Premiership with his pace and strength, as he has proven. He’s never likely to be Gers’ first pick centre-forward but one thing that has been lacking in recent years is depth in that position.

Hugh Keevins thinks Rangers should be looking at Olusanya

Keevins said in his Sunday Mail column: “This is the guy who terrorised Auston Trusty then Liam Scales during Celtic’s hard-fought win last week in Paisley.

“A game that came a week after Olusanya had bullied, and scored against, Rangers’ shellshocked defence in the win that cost Philippe Clement his job at Ibrox.

“Hamza Igamane’s goalless run up front for Rangers has now extended into double figures … and here’s a soon-to-be free agent who would be even better with an upgrade in players around him. Maybe I’m missing something.”
