Egyptian winger Ibrahim Adel has Rangers fans holding their breath as the club looks to sign a new attacker before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The Gers are short in the final third and are working to free up wages which will allow them to strike a deal for a first-team left-wing attacker.
After Brighton & Hove Albion forward Abdallah Sima said his goodbyes, Rangers have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.
Now, Ibrahim Adel has been dropped by current club Pyramids FC for a crucial Cup match as they look to lift the first trophy in their six year history.
It’s shock news which one Egyptian outlet believes is preceding the 23-year-old winger’s exit from New Cairo.
Ibrahim Adel dropped for crucial Pyramids FC clash
Reports in the Arab media claimed that Rangers had a loan-to-buy bid rejected for Ibrahim Adel earlier in the week.
But these claims were later rebuffed in Scotland, with Chris Jack claiming that Rangers have yet to make a bid for Adel despite being ‘aware’ of the attacker’s situation.
Rangers have since been named a £5m asking price for the attacker with Premier League new boys Ipswich Town and Leicester City linked to the Olympic forward.
Now, transfer speculation surrounding the winger has intensified after Ibrahim Adel was left out of Pyramids FC’s Egypt Cup semi-final clash with Al Masry.
It’s a decision which came very close to backfiring too, with Pyramids going in front and being reduced to ten men before conceding an equaliser late on in the match.
Pyramids would then survive an extra time onslaught despite being a man down before Al Masry saw one of their players sent off in the final minutes of the game.
Ibrahim Adel’s side would then win on penalty kicks to set up only the third Egypt Cup Final appearance in their history as Pyramids FC try to lift a first ever trophy.
Rangers-linked winger ‘in process of leaving’ Egypt
According to Egyptian outlet Onze Masr, Ibrahim Adel was absent from the match because the attacker is ‘in the process of leaving’ the New Cairo club.
The report also claims that Rangers, Ipswich, Leicester and La Liga club Getafe are all interested in signing the Egyptian winger.
It is very unlikely that Pyramids FC would effectively drop their best player for such an important match unless there was a firm reason for doing so.
As the transfer window prepares to close on Friday evening, the situation with Ibrahim Adel will now intensify as Rangers look to recruit a new attacker.
The Ibrox side are also close to agreeing an exit package for Scottish winger Scott Wright, who is preparing to join a Gers teammate in English League One.
