Shades of Allan McGregor as Timo Horn wants what Rangers can offer

Timo Horn is a name that Rangers fans might not be familiar with but he should be one that the recruitment team is aware of.

The Koln number one was born and bred in Cologne and Timo Horn has announced after a staggering 21 years that he will be leaving the Bundesliga outfit.

Michael Beale has all but confirmed that Allan McGregor will be leaving Rangers in the summer and a new keeper is close to the top of priorities.

The 6ft 4inch tall German has a hint of the McGregor about him though with a show reel of top class saves.

On this top five saves compilation from a few years ago, you can’t help but notice how similar his technique is when reacting to top corner efforts.

Number one, in particular, reminiscent of his save from Leigh Griffiths in the season Rangers last won the league.

Why should Timo Horn be considered for Rangers?

The 29-year old keeper has some serious pedigree, he is available and he is looking for regular football as he revealed on a statement published by Get Football News Germany:

“This situation, following my injury, changed last season. Competition is part of football, the role of being number two is something new for me – despite that, I’ve always given 100%, taken the situation as it is and reached Europe for the second time in my career.

“To be part of the team and achieve that makes me incredibly proud. However, my goal is to play every week and be there for my team. Therefore, I have decided to look for a new challenge in the summer.

“Over all the years and experiences at Geißbockheim, the feeling of togetherness with the people in the club who always give everything for FC, I am very, very thankful. I will remain an FC fan, no matter where I follow the club from, and wish the club the very best.”

Horn is a commanding presence in the box and still has his best years in front of him.

In a position where risk has to be kept to a minimum, securing a keeper who has played most of his football in the Bundesliga would be a solid investment.

Along with Jack Butland, he is the one that makes the most sense in terms of quality, availability and stage of his career.

If he is looking for a new challenge, and regular football, Rangers can offer exactly that.

European football and the chance to win trophies in front of 50,000 fans every other week would also be on the table, Rangers could be the perfect fit.

There are bargains to be had this summer if Ross Wilson did his homework before he upped sticks and money spent shouldn’t be an indicator of quality.

In Vasilias Barkas, we have the perfect example only across the city.
