Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson is set to join Premier League Nottingham Forest amid fierce fan protests this season.

The former Huddersfield and Southampton recruitment guru had been targeted for the City Ground after the Premier League newboys sacked Filipo Geraldi.

Now, according to the Telegraph the deal is nearing its completion with Ross Wilson to have a more wide-ranging role at Nottingham Forest than his predecessor.

The report claims the particulars of the deal have been agreed in principle with Wilson now expected to complete the move in the next 48 hours.

The news comes amid much debate surrounding the Ibrox director and ahead of a substantial summer of change at Ibrox, with several key players out of contract and an air of uncertainty around the club.

Ross Wilson set for Nottingham Forest switch

Had Ross Wilson been around to witness the revamp – or rebuild if you’re that way inclined – then there would’ve been immense pressure on the sporting director to succeed.

If he didn’t, the knives would’ve been out early and perhaps the Ross Wilson move to Nottingham Forest is the best for all parties.

That’s certainly what former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd thinks as he discussed the situation surrounding Ross Wilson to Sky Sports.

“When that is your role at the club you’re always going to be judged on it,” said Kris Boyd.

“There’s been a lot of criticism flying about I’ve had my say on it numerous times as well.

“There’s no doubt the recruitment at Rangers over the last few years hasn’t been good enough. There’s no getting away from it and I think the fans have had enough. You’ve seen them turn on Stewart Robertson and Ross Wilson.

“You don’t like to see it but they are the ones that are paid the money and the fans are turning up and they want better.

“If the opportunity comes around for him to go to a massive club in Nottingham Forest then you would feel it would be too good for him to turn down.

“There has been a lot of good things happened. It’s not all been negative. But once the fans start to voice their opinion at the level they have recently, it’s only going to end one way and it could be best for all parties.”
