Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has suggested that the time is right for sporting director Ross Wilson to leave Ibrox amid links to Nottingham Forest.

Reports emerged this week that the Premier League outfit have expressed an interest in Wilson after they parted company with Filipo Geraldi.

It’s earned an interesting response from Rangers supporters, with Ross Wilson the subject of protests only a couple of weeks ago as the club stare down the barrel of another Celtic treble.

The recruitment guru is viewed as having overseen a downturn in the Rangers squad with the team full of crocks, out of contract stars or expensive signings who are not contributing.

Kris Boyd tips Ross Wilson to leave Rangers

Speaking amid the furore, Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd reckons that the Ross Wilson Rangers experiment might be coming to an end with this the perfect time for both sides to part ways.

“When that is your role at the club you’re always going to be judged on it,” said Kris Boyd.

“There’s been a lot of criticism flying about I’ve had my say on it numerous times as well.

“There’s no doubt the recruitment at Rangers over the last few years hasn’t been good enough. There’s no getting away from it and I think the fans have had enough. You’ve seen them turn on Stewart Robertson and Ross Wilson.

“You don’t like to see it but they are the ones that are paid the money and the fans are turning up and they want better.

“If the opportunity comes around for him to go to a massive club in Nottingham Forest then you would feel it would be too good for him to turn down.

“There has been a lot of good things happened. It’s not all been negative. But once the fans start to voice their opinion at the level they have recently, it’s only going to end one way and it could be best for all parties.”

Nottingham Forest-linked Ross Wilson has previous experience in England, having spent time with Huddersfield Town and Southampton before moving to Rangers towards the end of 2019.
