It was only a few weeks ago Rangers fans were protesting Ross Wilson and now the Ibrox sporting director could have an easy out as Nottingham Forest reportedly come calling.
The Gers support are frustrated with a lack of domestic progress over the last few seasons as a series of disappointing transfer windows see the club fall behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Firmly in the firing line are managing director Stewart Robertson and sporting director Ross Wilson, who were the subject of protests as Rangers beat Motherwell only a few weeks ago.
Now, the likes of David Ornstein of the Athletic are reporting that Premier League Nottingham Forest have a legitimate interest in making Ross Wilson there new sporting director in a major turn up for the books.
This comes with Four Lads Had a Dream having claimed that new Rangers manager Michael Beale is set to have a more hands-on role when it comes to transfers in the summer.
Nottingham Forest interested in Ross Wilson
The report claims that Forest have been tracking the 39-year-old for substantial period of time before making their move with the club now in firm negotiations with Rangers over a switch.
Nottingham Forest have also shown a propensity to spend since earning their promotion back to the Premier League too, signing 22 players for around £150m in the summer, and adding another seven in January to the tune of £20m not including loan fees.
The Nottingham Forest situation presents an interesting dilemma for Ross Wilson, who was visibly irked by questions about his performance at a recent Rangers AGM.
Rangers director Stewart Robertson leaped to his defence back then, suggesting that Wilson’s sphere of success and influence at Ibrox goes ways beyond just recruitment.
Rangers fans have up-and-down experience with Wilson
Ibrox supporters have had an up-and-down relationship with Wilson ever since he signed on as an Ibrox director in October 2019.
Signed from Southampton, Wilson was initially commended for securing the likes of Romanian talent Ianis Hagi on loan before an impressive transfer window the following summer which contributed massively to winning 55.
But since then there have been some major complaints aimed at the sporting director who has seen a series of failed signings leave the club whilst Rangers have held on to several other senior players so long their valuations have dropped dramatically.
This of course isn’t all Ross Wilson’s fault; Steven Gerrard is known to have wielded substantial influence over the squad during his time in Glasgow whilst the club’s budget isn’t just decided by the recruitment guru.
That said, the January window of last season – where James Sands, Matuesz Zukowski, Amad Diallo and Aaron Ramsey were signed – was a domestic disaster even if the club reached the Europa League Final.
The summer window, where Rangers spent a substantial amount on player’s who have quite simply not delivered to date, from the deal surrounding Rabbi Matondo, to Ridvan Yilmaz and Ben Davies, is also proving a black mark.
There have however also been multiple success stories, if not in incomings then outgoings, with Ross Wilson negotiating the record-breaking sales of first Nathan Patterson and then Calvin Bassey.
Known to be a strong negotiator who has good relationships across Europe, Wilson was also commended by Bayern Munich for his dealings in securing the undoubtedly talented Malik Tillman.
Since Wilson’s appointment Rangers have seen much progress in the Women’s team whilst the B Team have now enjoyed two seasons in the Scottish Lowland League.
C-Ross-roads for Wilson
It’s not been perfect – and Rangers are far from “best in class” as things stand – but Ross Wilson is now at an interesting juncture amid the Nottingham Forest links.
The recruitment guru can shift off back sown south with millions to play with, away from the frustration and noise aimed at him from the Ibrox stands.
But perhaps then the recruitment guru might feel he’s left Ibrox with something to prove with Rangers toiling behind Celtic and a quite simply monumental summer on the horizon.
Either way, the decision either way will be a big statement from Ross Wilson with plenty disgruntled Rangers fans ready for the sporting director to move on.
But will they come to rue that in the months and years ahead?
