As far as first seasons at Rangers go, Robin Propper has had a particularly hard time of it at Ibrox.

There was plenty of hype surrounding the 31-year-old Dutch defender after moving to Rangers last summer.

The Gers even irked FC Twente by activating a release clause in the centre-back’s contract.

Since then it’s been a complicated season for the nervous centre-back, whose confidence has been shattered by physical domestic rivals and pressure from the Ibrox stands.

But with Rangers already targeting alternatives, the latest reports suggest Robin Propper’s Ibrox nightmare could soon be set to come to an end.

Rangers target Cameron Burgess to replace Robin Propper?

Rangers fans will have noted the reported interest in signing Ipswich Town centre-back Cameron Burgess over the weekend.

The Rangers Review claim Rangers are interested in the 29-year-old left-sided centre-back with his contract expiring at the Tractor Boys this summer.

Burgess – who was born in Aberdeen but represents the Australia national team – made 18 appearances in the Premier League as Ipswich were relegated this season.

The defender’s physical 6ft4 frame is believed to be a strong fit for Scottish football as Rangers look to bolster their backline.

But the report also makes note of Robin Propper’s situation at Ibrox, claiming it’s ‘understood’ that the defender ‘could move on from Ibrox’ this summer.

The claims come after Propper was tipped to move to Feyenoord earlier in the season, with a return to the Eredivisie the most likely outcome this summer.

Robin Propper one of three Rangers defenders facing uncertain Ibrox future

Robin Propper has certainly struggled since that summer move from FC Twente.

Rangers reportedly paid around £1.5m for the centre-back, who has struggled to replace the outgoing Connor Goldson following the defender’s move to Cyprus.

Whilst over the piece it’s been a challenging season, there have been some big moments for the centre-back, including a goal in the New Year’s Old Firm derby earlier in the season.

But the Dutchman isn’t the only Rangers defender who is facing an uncertain future in Glasgow.

John Souttar isn’t sure on a new Rangers contract, whilst Leon Balogun is hoping for a new Rangers deal with his contract set to expire next month.

With Rangers also linked to Kevin Boma, change is expected in the Ibrox backline and with players set to arrive in Glasgow, others will be moved on.

Robin Propper, John Souttar and Leon Balogun could all be amongst them.
