Rangers are heading in a new direction in this transfer window with an encouraging profile of player being linked to Philippe Clement’s revolution.

Jefte has arrived and Oscar Cortes will also return, both players tick all the boxes in terms of potential, pace, athleticism and ability on the ball.

They won’t be the last players with these qualities and the latest Rangers transfer rumour has seen Reuell Walters of Arsenal reported to be on the manager’s radar, according to The Scotsman

Rangers keen to land Arsenal starlet Reuell Walters

Like Dujon Sterling’s situation when he was at Chelsea, Walters isn’t being released by Mikael Arteta, far from it.

The Gunners have made several attempts to extend the versatile defender’s contract but, at 19-years old, he wants to be playing more regular first team football.

Reports of a last-gasp bid to change the talented teen’s mind could make Nils Koppen’s job harder though given the disparity of finances between the two sides, Walters hasn’t been named on Arsenal’s released list.

After naming Walters in his Champions League squad alongside two other academy players, Arteta couldn’t speak higher of the 6ft 1inch tall prospect:

“Three big prospects.

“We want to keep developing players from our system. They deserve to be here.

“We want to start to give them some experience because they have the talent to hopefully be very close to us. We will try to give them the opportunity if we can.”

Arsenal have had the luxury of consistency this season which has meant limited opportunities for players like Walters, despite their obvious talent.

Capped at youth level for England, Walters has an eerily similar profile to that of Sterling, however, the Arsenal man prefers playing centrally.

Walters is the textbook example of English deal

The Premier League is an expensive place to shop, however, as Rangers have seen with Calvin Bassey and Dujon Sterling, there are bargains to be had.

There is no shame in not being able to cement a regular place in a top flight team and there will be plenty of players like Reuell Walters who could prove to be solid investments as Rangers look to produce a more consistent player trading model.

At elite academies, they will see at first hand the level of work required to make the grade and will be no strangers to the pressure of having to perform in every game.

When resources are almost unlimited, any dip in standards can see players replaced at ease.

That Arsenal want to keep Walters and have made several attempts to extend his contract at the Emirates speaks volumes about his potential.

Nils Koppen has been moving quickly so far to rebuild the squad, has he moved quickly enough to get Rangers nose in front?
