Reported Rangers transfer target Fashion Sakala continued his remarkable form by netting his seventh goal in seven league matches for KV Oostende on Sunday.
The Gers are reportedly keen on a pre-contract move for Sakala [Daily Record], whose current deal with KVO expires in the summer.
He recently suggested that he would be open to signing a new deal with the Belgian First Division side [Glasgow Live], but also appeared to hint at interest in a move to Ibrox on social media earlier this month.
Rangers aren’t the only club said to be chasing him, though, with Belgian giants Anderlecht as well as English Premier League teams West Ham and Newcastle also reportedly circling [Daily Record].
It’s easy to see why the 13-cap Zambia international is attracting attention, too.
He started the season relatively brightly with a handful of goals for a side who have already comfortably surpassed their points tally from last season when they only narrowly avoided relegation.
He’s stepped things up a notch since the turn of the year, though, and his goal in a 2-1 defeat at Zulte Waregem on Sunday afternoon took him to seven strikes in his last seven league appearances.
Sakala failed to score in two games during that period, but he notched braces against KV Kortrijk and Standard Liege, while he also found the net against Rangers’ Europa League Round of 32 opponents Royal Antwerp.
It’s a remarkable run of form from the striker and it may bring him to the attention of even more clubs.
He’s still only 23, suggesting that although he’s already scoring prolifically in a European league, he is not yet the finished article.
Furthermore, the fact that he looks set to be available for free in the summer means that someone could soon get their hands on a very promising player for next to no financial risk.
With Rangers likely to strongly consider cashing in on Alfredo Morelos in the summer and Jermain Defoe soon to be out of contract, the forward department at Ibrox may be in need of strengthening and based on his current form, the Gers could do much worse than Sakala.
With just over a day remaining in the winter transfer window, a Rangers-linked midfielder is reportedly set to leave his Premier League club on loan.
