If the latest Rangers transfer news isn’t keeping you glued to your phone screen this January then we don’t know what to tell you.

There’s already plenty of twists and turns surrounding the goings on at Ibrox as Philippe Clement looks to fulfil his early promise about strengthening the club’s squad.

Not a peep is escaping Nils Koppen’s office as things stand with Rangers fans left to pick at the scraps of transfer news we’re seeing fall from the Belgian’s table.

Here’s the latest as the Ibrox club reportedly side look to add a striker and replace a left-back in the coming days and weeks.

Rangers transfer news revolves around striker hunt

The Rangers striker hunt is taking it’s toll on supporters who’re either embracing or turning their nose up at every player who is being linked to the club.

With Fabio Silva already in the door on loan from Wolves, and Cyriel Dessers not going to AFCON with Nigeria, the club do have a few options heading into a challenging post-winter break schedule.

But everyone and their dog knows a new hitman is crucial if Rangers are serious about challenging on the remaining three fronts this season.

Exciting links to Michy Batshuayi disappeared almost as quickly as they came with the Belgian striker not currently someone the Gers are pursuing.

Of those who’re left, the murmurs around Emmanuel Dennis, who worked with Philippe Clement at Club Brugge, and Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland remain the loudest.

Leeds United forward Joe Geldhart is reportedly a target for both Rangers and Celtic although the links have been met with unsympathetic groans from the Ibrox support.

Left-back also leads January window Ibrox conversation

The left-back position continues to be the most hotly debated outside of the hunt for a new striker with the conjecture surrounding the squad’s current options very much just that; conjecture.

There was plenty of talk about Verona’s move for Ridvan Yilmaz but with the Italians yet to launch a bid the Turkish international has been snapped in the club’s winter training camp.

Likewise Rangers defender Borna Barisic – who has been linked with Dinamo Zagreb this week – was clipped being put through his paces at La Manga.

Both are still Rangers stars with the future of one potential Ibrox replacement in Kai Wagner settled earlier this week when he signed on again with Philadelphia Union.

Out-of-contract Twente star Gijs Smal has been strongly linked whilst there are also those links to PSV youngster Fredrik Oppegard.

Ambitious links for Josh Doig come against the backdrop of Torino and Marseille reportedly fighting it out over a £5.2m (€6m) deal for the Verona left-back.

Who could quit Rangers this month?

As for the Rangers outgoings, we’ve already seen Ben Williamson leave the club for Hamilton Academicals whilst Sam Lammers has followed him with a move to Utrecht.

The Dutch forward has had an expensively disastrous first six months in Glasgow and as a result Rangers have an expensive hole in the squad to fill.

Fabio Silva might go some way to doing that but with Abdallah Sima on AFCON duties and Lammers having played 31 games last year suddenly we’re more than a man short.

A Ianis Hagi return from a loan spell at Alaves looks miles away and it’ll be interesting to see how the club reacts to Lammers’ loan move.

Reports linking the club to right-winger Million Manhoef have also gone decidedly cold.

As for other outgoings, barring the left-backs mentioned above the only other link we’ve seen if those ambitious claims club captain James Tavernier could move to Saudi.

Academy youngster Jamie Newton has completed a switch to Premier League Nottingham Forest.
