Derek McInnes is yet to decide who will captain Rangers next season as Lewis Ferguson remains a potential candidate.
Ferguson is liked by Rangers and talks have been held over a potential reunion this summer.
The Scotland international is the captain at Bologna, and with James Tavernier having left the Light Blues, the armband is currently vacant, and a decision is expected on who will be wearing it sooner rather than later.
If Lewis Ferguson joins post the World Cup, who should Derek McInnes name the Rangers captain?
This is assuming Nicolas Raskin leaves Rangers…
Andy Devlin believes captaincy could be on the table in Lewis Ferguson negotiations
If Ferguson decides to leave Bologna this summer, he will not be short on suitors.
Thus far, no decision has been made by the 26-year-old, but he has been considering his options.
Scottish Sun’s Andy Devlin has revealed that talks have been ongoing behind the scenes, and using the captaincy as a makeweight is a possibility as the Gers will need to convince him to return to Ibrox.
Will you take Lewis Ferguson back at Rangers this summer?
Barry Ferguson has backed the move…
Ferguson already is in one of Europe’s top five leagues and would need something special in order to leave that and join Rangers.
Devlin told the Rangers Transfer Special: “People keep asking me about Lewis Ferguson.
“I think that might be a potential makeweight in any deal Rangers can do in terms of trying to convince Lewis Ferguson to come to Ibrox. They might say: ‘Come and we’ll give you the armband.’
“We don’t know. There’s already talks behind the scenes with regards to Lewis Ferguson.”
How much would Ferguson demand in terms of wages?
Ferguson is reportedly on £21,000/week at Bologna, and he would want over £35,000/week if he is to leave this summer.
Given Rangers‘ wage structure, it would make him one of the top earners at the club, but they would not need to stretch their finances to bring him to Glasgow.
Considering Nicolas Raskin’s potential exit, signing someone like Ferguson to replace him makes a lot of sense, and even if he does become the top earner, it would be worth it.
Talks have been held over a transfer fee, but if the Gers can agree on personal terms, reaching an agreement with Bologna would be easier.
