Rangers have been handed a boost amid ambitious links to PSG wonderkid Xavi Simons as reports in France claim the Dutch teenager will leave Paris St Germain this summer.

A product of Barcelona’s La Masia, Xavi Simons signed a three-year professional deal with PSG in 2019 which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Believed to be worth a whopping €20k per week [GMS], Rangers and Barcelona have been linked to the youngster via reports in Spain as his current deal runs down.

AS Diario are credited as the source who first claimed Rangers were interested in Xavi Simons, with the youngster also linked to Barcelona by that report.

Now, reports coming out of France are claiming that PSG are preparing to let the youngster go as superagent Mino Raiola weighs up Simons’ next move.

Rangers-linked Xavi Simons “more than likely” to leave PSG

RMC Sport are claiming that Xavi Simons is “more than likely” to leave PSG alongside a host of other youth talents in the Qatari-rich club’s Academy.

This is because the 18-year-old is on the hunt for more regular football, something he would undoubtedly be more exposed to at Ibrox.

Obviously, the links are emboldened by the Dutch contingent in the management of Rangers with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his team leading figures in the Netherlands.

Rangers aren’t the only side being linked with a move for the youngster either, with TEAMtalk previously claiming Man City have one eye on the player.

But the fact Rangers are being mentioned is testament to the club’s growing stature on the European stage and whilst links to Xavi Simons are ambitious, fans will get excited nonetheless.

Not that there hasn’t been some pushback either as reports in the Scottish media quickly moved to dampen Rangers fan excitement and rule the club out of a deal.

Xavi Simons has also been spotted lighting up the UEFA Youth League as of late as the PSG kid inspires the French club to a stunning comeback v Club Brugge.
