Rangers-linked PSG wonderkid Xavi Simons showed exactly why there have been links between the playmaker and some of the biggest clubs in football with a stellar UEFA Youth League showing.

Xavi Simons was instrumental as the 10-man PSG U19S came back from two goals down to defeat their Belgian counterparts 3-2 in France.

Club Brugge would take the lead after 18 minutes when Mathis Servais stretched to slot the ball home in the PSG six-yard box.

The Belgians would continue to ramp up the pressure on the French side and before long it told with things going from bad to worse for PSG.

PSG defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu was shown a red card for preventing a goal-bound effort going in with his hand before Arne Engels dispatched the spot kick.

At halftime PSG looked down and out but Xavi Simons would light up the UEFA Youth League with an inspired second-half performance.

The talented attacking midfielder would haul PSG back into the game around the 69th minute mark after sustained Brugge pressure with a neat finish into the bottom corner after controlling it in the 18-yard box.

The PSG number 10 would then float in a free kick just four minutes later which was met by the head of Warren Zaire Emery to tie the game.

And Xavi Simons would be involved in the last minute winner as his header was palmed out by the Club Brugge goalkeeper and Wilson Odobert was fastest to react in the box.

The result means PSG – like the senior team in the Champions League – top their UEFA Youth League group with Club Brugge coming second.

Post-match, Xavi Simons has been reeling in the plaudits for yet another top performance with his contract running down at Paris St Germain:

Talented Dutch teenager Xavi Simons, 18, was linked to Ibrox last week by reports originating in Spain with the likes of Barcelona – where he has been previously – also mentioned as potential suitors.

However, Rangers’ interest was later talked down by the Scottish Sun as fans began to dream of securing one of Europe’s finest young talents.

The links to Dutch talent continue after the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox as Rangers are handed a boost ahead of a potential Oranje revolution 2.0.
