Rangers are hoping to utilise the statue of new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst and contacts with Mino Raiola to pip Barcelona in the hunt for Paris St Germain youngster Xavi Simons.

The talented young Dutch midfielder is an 18-year-old Netherlands youth international and has made a couple of appearances for the Ligue 1 side’s top team.

However, super-agent Mino Raiola is reportedly looking elsewhere when it comes to the midfield playmaker’s future with Simons’ contract up at the end of the season.

According to the relatively reputable AS Diario in Spain, Rangers and van Bronckhorst are hoping to convince both Xavi Simons and Mino Raiola of the potential of a move to Glasgow.

The report claims that Rangers are so interested in the youngster that they may even make a move in January.

A former Barcelona youth player, the cash-strapped Spanish giants are also linked with a return for the youngster when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Rangers-linked Xavi Simons was once amongst most highly-sought after talents in Europe

Xavi Simons came through the youth ranks of Barcelona and prior to his move to Paris St Germain was one of the most highly sought after youth talents in football.

Regarded in 2019 as one of the brightest talents in the Barca Academy, there were also links to the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea as he neared the age to sign a professional deal.

However, Simons would sign his first ever professional contract with the Qatari-rich French club signing a three-year deal said to be worth €1m-a-year or roughly €20k a week [GMS].

It’s certainly a link which will excite Rangers fans and comes from a decent standard of source in Spain so perhaps this is one to watch.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has considerable pull in the global game and is a leading figure from Dutch football.

Perhaps the prospect of a link-up in his exciting project at Rangers could tempt Xavi Simons and his outspoken superagent Mino Raiola.

Rangers also have ex-Ajax B manager Dave Vos as Gio’s assistant and the Dutchman has worked with some of the leading talents coming out of the Netherlands over the last decade.

Xavi Simons isn’t the only player being linked with a move to van Bronckhorst’s Rangers either as the Gers are linked with a raid in the Premier League.
