This January transfer window isn’t just about bolstering the Rangers squad for Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen.

It’s also about shipping out those players in the Gers team who are either not repaying their hefty wages or who are not getting enough opportunities.

There are some amongst that number who fall into both camps, and there are plenty of reports surrounding transfer interest in some of Rangers’ perennial underachievers.

And if the latest reports are to be believed, one Rangers player for whom chances have been at premium is about to agree a deal south of the border.

Rangers squad star set for England transfer

Rangers have a number of academy players on their books in Leon King, Adam Devine and Alex Lowry who’ve broken through at Ibrox but have been unable to hold down a place.

Of the three, only Leon King has earned minutes this season with Rangers News exclusively revealing that Rangers want to ship King out on loan this January.

Six clubs in the English Championship are exploring their options when it comes to the defender.

Adam Devine too has been strongly linked with a transfer out of Ibrox, the 21-year-old right-back reportedly attracting interest from Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.

But it’s Rangers playmaker Alex Lowry who now looks set to be the first of the three to leave the club with Wycombe Wanderers closing in on a permanent deal.

That’s according to Pete O’Rourke who, writing for Football Insider, claims that the League One side are turning to Lowry after a move for Wallsall’s Jamie Jellis fell short.

Alex Lowry exit to free up over £300k in wages

Whilst Alex Lowry is not amongst Rangers’ highest earners, the 22-year-old midfielder certainly isn’t on peanuts.

After Lowry broke through at Ibrox in January 2022, scoring on his debut against Stirling Albion, there was plenty of hype around the young Scottish playmaker.

So much so that Rangers are said to have held off interest from Manchester City and Newcastle United to sign Alex Lowry down on a new contract the following summer.

Salary Sport claim that deal is worth a not inconsiderable £6.5k per week or £338k per season.

Rangers are looking to cut a substantial amount from the club’s wage bill after already slashing yearly costs by £6m from last season.

Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell have been told to find new clubs, whilst there is growing interest in Welsh international Tom Lawrence.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has also admitted that Cyriel Dessers could leave the club this January amid strong interest from across Europe.
